Juan Francisco Villarreal-Chiu earned a BS in chemistry (2003) and an MSc in molecular biology and genetic engineering from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. He earned a PhD in molecular microbiology (2011) from Queen’s University Belfast. He is now an Associate Professor at the School of Chemistry at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. His work in applied microbiology has resulted in 33 publications. His research interests include organophosphonates, pesticide biodegradation, and the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites.
Donato Luna-Moreno is a researcher at the Center for Research in Optics AC. He received his BE degree in physics from the Universidad de Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1988; his MSc degree in optics from the Centro de Investigaciones en Optica, León, México, in 1991; and his PhD degree in optics from the Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica, Optica y Electrónica, Puebla, México, in 1997. His research interests include the design, coating, and characterization of optical thin films, and optical sensors based on surface plasmon resonance.
