Author Biographies

Gabriel Solana-Lavalle obtained his Ph.D. in Smart Systems from the Universidad de las Américas, Puebla, México in 2023. He was an international visiting graduate student at the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto in 2022. His research interests include signal processing, medical imaging analysis, forecasting, and machine learning.
Dr. Cusimano is a graduate of the University of Toronto School of Medicine. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and received his Master's in Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Cusimano performed a formal skull base surgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, 1991–1992. He joined the Neurosurgical Staff at St. Michael’s Hospital in 1992. His clinical practice is devoted to the surgery of patients with complex skull base lesions, and his research has focused on developing novel skull base approaches to intracranial lesions, traumatic brain injury, and concussion, and to educational studies relating to health professionals and the general public. He is a strong advocate for prevention and good brain health. He is currently a professor in the Department of Surgery with cross-appointments in Public Health and Education and supervises fellowships in general neurosurgery, cranial base surgery, surgical education, and neurosurgical public health at St. Michael’s Hospital.
Dr. Steeves is board-certified in neurology and the director of movement disorders at the Nuvance Health Neuroscience Institute. He completed three years of movement disorders fellowship training, including dedicated training in deep brain stimulation and movement disorders electrophysiology at the Toronto Western Hospital in Canada. He was an assistant professor at the University of Toronto and ran the Movement Disorders Clinic at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. Dr. Steeves evaluates and treats all movement disorders, including Parkinson's disease, atypical Parkinsonism, dystonia, chorea, tics, and tremor. He performs electromyographies (EMG) and ultrasound-guided botulinum toxin injections to treat dystonia and tremors and electromyography to evaluate neuromuscular disease.
Roberto Rosas obtained his Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from the University of Washington (Seattle, Washington, USA) in 1999. He has been a full-time Professor at the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Universidad de las Américas-Puebla (Puebla, México) since 2000. He has been a Fulbright Scholar twice, as a student at the University of Washington and as a visiting professor at Yale. His research interests are Signal Processing, Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition, Machine Learning, and Medical Image Analysis.
Pascal Tyrrell Ph.D. is a data scientist—a combination of research methodologist, computer/database solutions architect, and innovator. He received his Ph.D. in medical sciences from the University of Toronto working in the area of pediatric rheumatology at SickKids (Toronto, ON). Currently, he is the Director of Data Science and Associate Professor at the Department of Medical Imaging, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, where he is also the founding director of the MiDATA Data Science program. Pascal is cross-appointed to the Institute of Medical Science and the Department of Statistical Sciences where his research aims to introduce, statistically, sound and innovative Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning approaches to the study of medical images in health-related outcomes research. Pascal has previous work experience in the computer, financial, and medical device industries, and is the CEO and co-founder of the software startup company SofTx Innovations Inc.
