Prof. Hua-Ji Qiu is the head of the Department of Swine Infectious Diseases and chief scientist of the Division of High-Consequence Swine Viral Diseases at Harbin Veterinary Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. He is a review expert for the National Science and Technology Award, member of the panel of evaluation experts of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, advisor of the Veterinary Drug Evaluation Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, executive director of the Animal Infectious Diseases Branch of the Chinese Society of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, director of the Veterinary Immunology Branch of the Chinese Society of Immunology, vice president of the Pig Veterinary Branch of Chinese Veterinary Medical Association, and vice president of the Animal Infectious Disease Branch of the Heilongjiang Society of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine. He is mainly engaged in the basic research and prevention and control technology of African swine fever (ASF), classical swine fever, and pseudorabies. Notably, he participated in the diagnosis and reporting of the emergence of ASF in China and developed a series of detection technologies for ASF. He has successively presided over the national 13th Five-Year Key Research and Development Program of China, the National “863” Project, the National Natural Science Foundation Key Project, National Key Technologies R&D Program, EU FP7 project, and so on.
