Prof. Frederik Berrevoet obtained his medical degree at Ghent University, Belgium, after which, he received his surgical training at the University Hospital in Ghent, University Hospital Saarland, Homburg, Germany, and Albert Schweitzer Hospital in the Netherlands. He started as a fellow at the Department of General & HPB and Transplantation Surgery at the University Hospital Ghent in 2004, after which, he became a consultant in this department in 2006. Since 2020, he has been the Head of the Department for General and HPB Surgery, Liver Transplantation, and Organ Procurement. He received the degree of doctor in medical science with his public defense of the thesis with the title ‘Progress in synthetic material in abdominal wall repair’ in September 2010; obtained the European Board of Surgery qualification in hepato-biliary and pancreatic surgery in Zurich, Switzerland, in December 2010; and became an honorary Fellow of the European Board of Surgery for Abdominal Wall Surgery in 2021. His research topics mainly include pancreatic surgery and incisional hernia treatment.
