Horacio F. Mayer is the Chief of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires (affiliated with the University of Buenos Aires and Hospital Italiano University). He holds appointments as Director of the Plastic Surgery Residency Program and the Breast Reconstruction and Oncoplastic Fellowship Program there. He obtained an M.D. from Universidad Nacional del Nordeste in 1994 and completed a specialization in General Surgery at the University of Buenos Aires from 1995 to 1999 and a specialization in Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro from 1999 to 2002. He received a Fellowship in Plastic Surgery from Harvard Medical School in 2002. He is Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Plastic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a member of the Argentine Society of Plastic Aesthetic Reconstructive Surgery (SACPER), the Ibero-Latin American Federation of Plastic Surgery (FILACP), the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), and the Ivo Pitanguy Alumni Association (AEXPI). Currently, he is also Chairman of the Education Committee of the International Confederation of Plastic Surgery Societies (ICOPLAST).
