Prof. Jerzy Merkisz is a specialist in combustion engines and a lecturer at the Poznań University of Technology. In 1971, he obtained a master's degree in mechanical engineering, specializing in "Energy machines and devices - Combustion Engines" at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Poznań University of Technology. In the same year, he started working at the Department of Combustion Engines of the Institute of Thermal Technology of Combustion Engines as a trainee assistant and, subsequently, an assistant and a senior assistant. In 1978, he defended his doctoral thesis entitled "Research methodology and the impact of some design parameters of scraper rings on oil consumption in combustion engines on the example of the 115C.076/52 engine", which was awarded the award of the Rector of the Poznań University of Technology. In 1992, he obtained a post-doctoral degree in the field of construction and operation machines as a result of defending his habilitation thesis entitled "Study of the Influence of oil consumption on the Emission of toxic compounds in high-speed combustion Engines". He received the award of the Rector of the Poznań University of Technology on 1 September 1994 and obtained the academic title of professor of technical sciences. His main areas of scientific activity are the construction and operation of machines-combustion engines, especially in the aspect of ecology; transport, and transport ecology, including OBD on-board diagnostics systems.
