Author Biographies

Louisa Hallal received her Master of Applied Science in Operational Research in 2015, from, Sobey School of Business, Saint Mary's University, Halifax, Canada. Prior to that, she worked as a research assistant at the National Research Council (CNRC-NRC), Halifax, Canada. Louisa holds a BEng in Computer Science with a concentration in Artificial Intelligence. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Applied Science at the Division of Engineering, Saint Mary's University, Halifax, Canada, in collaboration with the David Sobey Retailing Centre, Sobey School of Business, Halifax, Canada, working on biometric authentication in extended reality.
Dr. Jason Rhinelander is an assistant professor in the Division of Engineering at Saint Mary’s University. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and Professional Engineers Ontario. Since arriving at Saint Mary’s University (SMU) in 2013, he has taught courses in programming, engineering mechanics, engineering economics, electrical circuit analysis, probability and statistics, computer vision, and machine learning. He has served as the local chapter chair for the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society/Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society of the IEEE. He specializes in using kernel machine algorithms for online machine learning, big data applications, and problem-solving related to computer vision, signal processing, system optimization, and extraction of knowledge from large data sets.  He has completed industry-applied research and development in the areas of offshore mooring inspection systems, underwater pattern recognition in side-scan SONAR imagery, and supply chain demand prediction for retail goods. He is currently the Head of Technology and Innovation for the David Sobey Retailing Centre at SMU.
