Prof. Dr. Nipon Chattipakorn received his M.D. from the Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai, Thailand, and Ph.D. in physiology and biophysics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), USA, and had his postdoctoral fellow training at the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases, Department of Medicine, at UAB. He is currently the director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Research and Training (CERT) Center, Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, and serves as a professor and a chair in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University. Prof. Dr. Nipon Chattipakorn’s research interests are in the field of cardiac electrophysiology and the pathophysiology of the heart. He has been studying the electrophysiological changes in normal, obesity, diabetic as well as thalassemic hearts, during ischemia and reperfusion injury and heart failure, using a wide range of study models ranging from cardiac mitochondria, isolated cardiomyocytes, and small and large (human-like) animal models to the bedside level for these pathophysiological studies.
