Author Biographies

Dr. Angelos Papadopoulos is a Speech and Language Therapist at the Children’s Hospital of Patras, located in Patras, Greece and a Post-Doctoral researcher in University of Patras. He earned his Ph.D. degree from the School of Medicine, University of Ioannina, and his M.S. degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Thessaly. During his M.S., he was awarded scholarships from the State Scholarships Foundation (I.K.Y.) for the years 2012–2014. Following his doctoral studies, he worked as a Speech and Language Therapist at the Center of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, General Hospital of Rethymnon, in 2021. Subsequently, he became a Lecturer at the Department of Speech and Language Therapy, University of Patras, in 2023. His research interests include speech therapy, pediatrics, communication disorders, voice disorders, quality of life, pragmatics, speech deficits, primary health care, early intervention, articulation disorders, phonology, and semantics.
Dr. Alexandra Prentza holds a BA in English Language and Literature from the School of English, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2000), as well as an MA in Applied Linguistics (awarded with Distinction) from the University of Essex, U.K. (2002). She is the recipient of 4 EU-funded scholarships for in-service training on language education, language learning/teaching and language policies. Since 2004 she has taught linguistic undergraduate and postgraduate and courses in a number of Institutions and Departments (e.g., Speech Therepy Department & Department of Foreign Languages, University of Ioannina, Hellenic Open University, Patras, Greece). She also worked as a postdoctoral researcher for the project FP7 funded project “Bilingual Acquisition & Bilingual Education: The Development of Linguistic & Cognitive Abilities in Different Types of Bilingualism (BALED)” (Award No: MIS 377313) from 2013 to 2015. Currently, she is a Laboratory Teaching Staff member in the Department of Linguistics, School of Philology, University of Ioannina. She has accumulated experience in conducting psycholinguistic and second langauage research with adult and children populations. Her research interests concern language acquisition, second language acquisition, syntax and second language syntax, interface phenomena & lexicon in L2, heritage languages, language maintenance & loss, bilingualism & multilingualism, bilingualism & disorders.
Dr. Louiza Voniati is an Associate professor in the undergraduate Speech and Language Therapy Program and postgraduate Speech Pathology Programs at the European University Cyprus. She was a research assistant at the Early Childhood Research Laboratory of the Department of Education of the University of Cyprus. She is the director of the iCommunicate Research Center at European University Cyprus. Her research interests include language development of typically developing children and language-impaired children, language sample analysis procedures, early identification of children with communication disorders, language impairment in children with learning difficulties, the scope of practice of speech-language therapists, and speech-language therapists in multidisciplinary teams. Her funding record includes leadership of and participation in national and international research projects. Dr. Voniati has presented her work in numerous seminars, workshops, and conferences on speech and language disorders, as well as published many scientific articles, and edited many books in her field of expertise. She is also an accredited and recognized reviewer in several peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Dionysios Tafiadis is an assistant professor in the Department of Speech and Language Therapy, School of Health Sciences, University of Loannina. In 2003, he received his Bachelors (Hons. B.Sc. Med.) in Speech Therapy from the TEI of Patras, Department of Speech Therapy, Greece. After his National Service as a Speech Therapist in 2008, he acquired (with a scholarship) an M.Sc. in “Speech Therapy: Oral and Written Language Disorders—Learning Disabilities”, Department of Primary Education, University of Ioannina, Greece. His doctorate was in dementia studies and was awarded by the School of Medicine at the University of Ioannina. From 2005 until July 2018, he was teaching at the Department of SLT (TEI of Epirus), and since 2018, he has been an Assistant Professor (full tenure) at the Department of SLT at the University of Ioannina. In 2011, he was accredited and recognized as an SLP by the American Speech Hearing Association (ASHA). His research interests include speech pathology, dementia, voice, swallowing, and language.
