Author Biographies

Dr. Takako Inoue is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Clinical Laboratory Medicine at Nagoya City University Hospital. She received her degree from the Graduate School of Medicine, Gunma University in 2004, then worked as a teaching assistant from 2006 to 2010.  From 2010 to 2012, Dr. Takako Inoue served as a Postdoctoral research scientist at the Harvard Medical School. Dr. Takako Inoue is also a member of the Japan Society of Clinical Chemistry and the Japan Society of Hepatology. Her research interests mainly include viral hepatitis and the gut microbiome.
Dr. Shintaro Yagi serves at the Research and Development Department, Advanced Life Science Institute, Inc., Hachioji, Japan. He is also a Professor at the Department of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatology Transplantation, Kanazawa University. He got his M.D. degree in 1997 and a Ph.D. degree in 2006. His clinical specialty is liver transplantation and hepatobiliary and pancreas (HBP) surgery including oncology and microsurgery. His research interest is focused on liver regeneration and ischemia-reperfusion injury in the liver using small and large animal models. In addition, he is a councillor of ISEM.
Prof. Dr. Yasuhito Tanaka has been working as a Gastroenterologist (Hepatologist) since 1991 and has treated many patients with chronic viral hepatitis. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from Nagoya City University, Nagoya, Japan. In 1999, he joined the U.S. National Institutes of Health as a Visiting Fellowship. After serving as Assistant Professor (2001–2002), Lecturer (2002–2006), and Associate Professor (2006–2009) at the Department of Clinical Molecular Informative Medicine, Nagoya City University Graduate School of Medical Sciences, he became a Professor and the Director of the Department of Virology & Liver Unit, Nagoya City University Graduate School of Medical Sciences (2006–2020). Since 2020, he has been serving as a Professor of the Department of Gastroenterology and the Hepatology Vice Dean Faculty of Life Science at Kumamoto University, the Deputy Hospital Director and Director of the Liver Center, and the Director of the Endoscopy Center at Kumamoto University Hospital. He has been working on molecular evolutionary analyses of HBV and HCV using human samples, and also leading National Projects about GWAS and drug screening for developing HBV therapeutics. His clinical studies contributed to making Japanese guidelines to prevent HBV reactivation by HBV-DNA monitoring.
