Dr. Ivan Gratchev is an Associate Professor at the School of
Engineering & Built Environment, Griffith University, Australia. He obtained
his B.Sc. in Engineering Geology from Moscow State University, Russia in 1997, and his
M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Kyoto University, Japan in 2004 and 2007, respectively. He then worked as a Postdoctoral
Fellow at the University of Tokyo from 2007 to 2010. He joined Griffith University
as a Lecturer in 2010 and became an Associate Professor in 2023. Dr. Gratchev’s
research interests are in geotechnical aspects
of landslides, soil liquefaction, unsaturated soil, reactive soil, and rock mechanics.
He has served as a consultant for several industry projects and collaborated with
some industry and research institutions including Queensland Rail and CSIRO.
