Professor Subhajit Basu is a distinguished Law and Technology professor at the University of Leeds, renowned for his expertise in the intersection of law and emerging technologies, particularly cyberspace regulation. He has garnered an international reputation for his cutting-edge and innovative interdisciplinary research, with a strong focus on the Global South. Central to his research is the understanding and analysis of the increasing amount of data in our society, particularly "big data", and its control over our lives. Professor Basu was Chair of the British and Irish Law Education Technology Association from 2018 to 2021. He co-authored the critically acclaimed book "Privacy and Healthcare Data: 'Choice of Control' to 'Choice' and 'Control'?" published by Routledge in 2016, which explores the dynamics of data protection in healthcare. He has published extensively on data protection, AI, e-commerce, cybercrime, the digital divide, freedom of expression, privacy, and eGovernment. Additionally, Professor Basu was pivotal as a Co-Investigator in two EU Horizon 2020 projects, PASCAL and MODALES, which focused on improving driver behaviour, public acceptance of automated vehicles, and lowering emissions through driver behaviour modification.
