Jean van Laar is a Senior Extraordinary Lecturer at North-West University. He also holds positions as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Industrial Engineering at Stellenbosch University and a Programme Manager (Academia) at ETA Operations. He earned his (B.Eng.) in Chemical Engineering, his B.Eng. Honors in Mechanical Engineering, a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, all from the University of Pretoria. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at ETA Operations (2019–2021) and served as a Chemical Engineer at South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa) in 2020. His expertise focuses on energy management and efficiency in deep-level mines.
