Luquan Ren graduated from Jilin University of Technology in 1967 and received a master's degree in engineering from the same university in 1981. He remained at the school to become dean of the Farming Machine Department, director of the Research Department, vice president, president, and Party secretary. In 2000, He served as vice president of Jilin University after the five universities merged together. He was selected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2007. At present, Dr. Ren serves as the director of the Academic Committee, the vice director of the School Administration Committee, the vice director of the Academic Degrees Committee, and the director of the Academic Committee of Key Laboratory of Engineering Bionics, Ministry of Education, Jilin University. He also holds membership in other professional societies: he is the executive vice president of the International Society of Bionic Engineering (ISBE), the national delegate of China on the International Society of Terrain Vehicle Systems (ISTVS), the honorary president of China Agricultural Machinery Society, the honorary president of the Terrain Machine Systems Branch, the vice president of China Institute of Field Statistics, etc. Dr. Ren has engaged in bionic science and engineering research for a long time.
