Prof. Ornella Luorio is an Associate Professor of Architectural Engineering at the Polytechnic of Milan (IT). Formerly, she was a Full Professor and Chair in Architecture and Structures at the University of Leeds, UK, and a Program Leader in Architectural Engineering. She now serves as a Visiting Professor at the University of Leeds. Professor Luorio has an established reputation in academia and industry, for innovations in the sustainable design of lightweight structures and resilient built environments. Educated in Architecture at the “University Federico II” in Naples (IT) and “University Gabriele D’Annunzio” in Chieti–Pescara, she holds an MArch (Hons) degree in Architecture and a Ph.D in Structural Engineering. She developed her research career at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston (USA), within the Structural Design Lab and Building Technology Program. She has published more than 100 scientific articles, including journal publications, technical reports and international conference papers. She has also led a World University Network (WUN_BRIC) and held a fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, USA). She serves as Associate Editor for the Journal “Architecture, Structure and Construction”, and as a scientific committee member of many international conferences (including ICSA, FIB, and SEEDS).
Dr. Han Fang is a Lecturer in Structural Engineering and the MSc Programme Lead at the School of Civil Engineering of the University of Leeds. She obtained her PhD in Structural Engineering from Monash University in Australia. Following graduation, she has been building an international working profile through career development in Hong Kong, Australia and the United Kingdom. Dr. Fang currently leads a research team of seven PhD students and over ten Masters students, who carry out research on low-carbon materials and structures, reclaiming industry waste or end-of-life infrastructures for the circular economy, and advanced technology for construction and building system control for energy efficiency. This research has received funding and awards from industry and research councils.
Dr. Michele Win Tai Mak is a Lecturer in Structural Engineering at the University of Leeds and Deputy Director of the Neville Centre of Excellence in Cement and Concrete Engineering. His research interests revolve around the development of elegant, efficient, and sustainable structures. His current research focuses on the optimisation of the mechanical and environmental performance of reinforced concrete. He holds a Diplôme d'Ingénieur from the École Spéciale des Travaux Publics, du Bâtiment et de l'Industrie de Paris, a Master’s Degree from Politecnico di Milano, and a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. Before embarking on an academic career, he was as a Structural Engineer at Ove Arup & Partners.
