Santourlidis Simeon is a Professor, Privatdozent, and Doctor rerum naturalium, holding a Diplom-Biologe.
From 15/07/1981 to 05/04/1985, he attended the Quirinus Gymnasium (High School) in
Neuss.
He earned his diploma after completing 1 year of malaria research in 10/1996 at the Institute of Molecular Parasitology, Heinrich‐Heine-University Düsseldorf (HHU). His mentor wasProf. Dr. Dr. hc. Frank Wunderlich.
He began studying for his doctoral thesis in 04/1997 in the research group of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schulz at the Clinic of Urology of Prof. Dr. Rolf Ackermann at the University Hospital, HHU. He finished his doctoral thesis on epigenetics in 06/2000.
From 12/2000 to 12.2007, postdoctoral position in the research group "Natural Immunity“ at the Institute for Transplantation Diagnostics and Cell Therapeutics, HHU. He discovered the epigenetic regulation of Killer-cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) genes, a central pillar of the innate immunity of humans
against cancer cells and cells infected by viruses.
In 07/2012, he earned his Habilitation and Venia Legendi in Molecular Medicine, HHU, becoming a fully qualified Privatdozent.
In 07/2019, he was appointed as an Associate Professor in Molecular Medicine at the Medical Faculty of the HHU.
Professor Simeon Santourlidis is now Director of the Laboratory of Epigenetics for Human Health and Longevity at the Institute for Transplantation Diagnostics and Cell Therapeutics, HHU.
