Author Biographies

Mr. Boisy Pitre received his masters degree in computer science from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2010, and is now pursuing a PhD in computer science at the same institution. He is a member of IEEE and ACM. His research interests lie in efficient and well-architected embedded operating systems that are responsive to minimal area and power requirements. He has worked in the software industry since 1992, focusing on embedded, real-time and mobile computing. His thesis, "Compiler-Assisted Energy Reduction for Microprocessors: Measurement and Analysis" (2010), focused on the nexus between time, space and energy optimizations for compilers. From 1992 to 2000, he was a software engineer at Microware Systems Corporation, the creators of the OS-9 real-time operating system. Along with Bill Loguidice, he co-authored the book ''CoCo: The Colorful History of Tandy's Underdog Computer'' (2013), published by Taylor & Francis. In 2014, he authored "Swift for Beginners" which is part of Peachpit Press' Develop and Design series of technical books. The second edition was released in 2015.
Dr. Martin Margala is the director of the School of Computing and Informatics at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, a recognized R1 institution. He was previously a full professor and chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Massachusetts Lowell and a Co-Director of the Center for Smart Cyber-Physical Systems (SCyPS). He received his PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Alberta, Canada, in 1998. Dr. Margala serves on executive committees and boards of various divisions of ASEE, and is a senior member of ACM, IEEE, and SPIE with 80+ journal and 200+ peer-reviewed conference publications in the areas of Design for Testability and Sustainability and High-Performance Sustainable Computing Architectures. He has supervised 25 PhD students and 19 MS students over his 25-year career as a faculty member in academia and served on numerous program committees of international conferences. His service includes membership on workgroups that have a significant impact on the future direction of academia and industry interest areas, such as the ITRS (International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors), published by Sematech.
