Professor Andreas Schwarting is the head of the Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the Medical Director of the Rheumatology Center Rhineland-Palatinate in Bad Kreuznach. Additionally, he founded and directs the University Center for Autoimmunity and Autoinflammation (UCA) at the University Medical Center Mainz, where patients with complex inflammatory conditions are molecularly characterized and treated in an interdisciplinary manner. Prof. Schwarting studied medicine at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University Bonn and Uppsala University, and obtained his doctorate at the Institute of Neurochemistry at the University of Bonn. He completed his medical training as a specialist in internal medicine, nephrology, and rheumatology at the I. Medical Clinic of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. His postdoctoral training was completed at the Harvard Institutes of Medicine in Boston, focusing on cytokine regulation of lupus nephritis. Professor Schwarting's research focuses on clinical and pathophysiological aspects of systemic autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases, as well as health services research projects such as Rheuma-VOR.
