Mr. Matheus Cavali holds a degree in Environmental and Sanitary Engineering from the Federal University of Fronteira Sul (UFFS), Brazil, and a master's degree in Bioprocess Engineering and Biotechnology from the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), Brazil. His research area is waste valorization. He has studied the production of methyl esters (biodiesel) from agro-industrial residues and lignin recovery for the valorization of lignocellulosic residues. He is currently a Ph.D. student in the Graduate Program in Environmental Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Brazil, where he is researching hydrochar (biochar) production.
Dr. Nelson Libardi Junior is an adjunct professor in the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina. He is also an environmental engineer and master in process engineering. He received a master's degree at the Helmholtz Environmental Research Center (UFZ/Germany), a Ph.D. in bioprocess engineering and biotechnology from the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), and PostDoc at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). He has experience in bioprocesses for the treatment of domestic and industrial effluents, in the production of metabolites (biopolymers, enzymes, acids) and microbial biomass (fungi, bacteria, aerobic granules, biological flakes ), as well as in the degradation/reuse of nutrients and pollutants on bench and pilot scales. He is active in biological effluent and waste treatment processes, focusing on biorefinery.
Prof. Dr. Armando Borges De Castilhos Junior graduated in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (1983). He received his Ph.D. in management and treatment of urban and industrial solid waste at the Institut National des Sciences Appliquèes de Lyon, France (1988). He was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Davis, Biomass Laboratory (2012) and a senior visiting professor at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia of the University of Lisbon, in 2021. He coordinated the Southern Regional Network of the National Network for Training and Technological Extension in Basic Sanitation-ReCESA. He was a coordinator of the undergraduate course in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at UFSC (1994–1996), the Postgraduate Program in Environmental Engineering at UFSC (2002–2004), and a sub-Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Environmental Engineering (2016–2018). He was the head and deputy head of the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at UFSC (2010–2011). He is a Professor of Higher Education at the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (1992–current). He is the supervisor of the Solid Waste Research Laboratory-LARESO. He has experience in the area of Sanitary Engineering, with an emphasis on solid, urban, agricultural, and industrial waste.
