Constantinus Politis is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. He is currently a Full Professor and Chairperson in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Leuven University Hospitals, KU Leuven, Belgium. He is an invited lecturer at the EHSAL in Brussels. He graduated from the Catholic University of Leuven in medicine (MD, summa cum laude) and in dentistry (DDS, magna cum laude). He specialized in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Catholic University of Leuven. He holds an honorary professorship at the Fourth Medical Military University of Xi’an, China. He also holds a master's degree in Management (MM) from the Applied Economic Sciences at the University of Hasselt and a master's degree in Hospital Management (MHM) from the Catholic University of Leuven. He became recognized as a medical specialist in the management of healthcare data and is now a member of the National Council of Hospital Facilities. He is Vice-President of the Professional Union of Belgian Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is an acknowledged trainer of OMFS trainees. His professional field of interest is orthognathic and orthodontic surgery and trigeminal nerve dysfunction. Clinical research projects include the prevention and repair of iatrogenic trigeminal nerve injury, transplantation of teeth, and orthognathic surgery. He has been granted membership in the Belgian Royal Academy of Medicine.
Gwen R.J. Swennen is a consultant maxillofacial and facial plastic surgeon in the Division of Maxillofacial Surgery, General Hospital St John, Bruges, and in the Cleft and Craniofacial Centre, Bruges, Belgium. He also works in private practice in cosmetic facial surgery at Clinic Tilleghem, Bruges. He obtained his medical degree at the University of Antwerp in 1995 and his dental degree at the University of Brussels in 1998. He trained in craniomaxillofacial surgery in Hannover and plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgery in Hannover and Brussels. He obtained his PhD degree in 2004 at the Hannover Medical School and subsequently became an associate professor before receiving the academic title “APL Professor” in 2009. His principal interests are orthognathic surgery, cosmetic and reconstructive facial plastic surgery, and congenital malformations. He has a special interest in three-dimensional virtual imaging. He has been a member of the Education Committee of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (IAOMS) and was section editor of the “Imaging Section” of the International Journal of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery until 2017. He is a councillor for Belgium of the IAOMS and chairman of the Orthognathic Section of SORG and the editor of three books: “Three-Dimensional Cephalometry. A Color Atlas and Manual”, “Three-Dimensional Virtual Planning of Orthognathic Surgery”, and “Minimally Invasive Orthognathic Surgery: a Systematic Step-by-Step Approach”.
