Suraj Kar is a postdoctoral scholar at Oregon State University (OSU). His focus area of research is grapevine ecophysiology. At OSU, he collaborates with wine grape growers and studies grapevine interactions with local climatological and biotic stress factors such as wildfire smoke, seasonal drought, and grapevine red blotch disease. He holds a Ph.D. in Biosphere Science from Hokkaido University, Japan. Before joining OSU, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in viticulture at the Pennsylvania State University and Texas Tech University. He is currently a member of The American Society for Enology and Viticulture.
Joseph DeShields earned a BS in Biology from Oregon State University (2015) and an MS Plant Pathology from Washington State University (2018). He is now a Faculty Research Assistant at the Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center (SOREC) for Drs. Levin and KC. His work at the SOREC has resulted in 20 publications and 15 presentations. His memberships include the American Phytopathological Society and the American Society for Enology and Viticulture. His research involvement at the SOREC includes grapevine red blotch virus, fire blight of pear, and grapevine water relations.
