Michael J. Maniaci, M.D., is the Enterprise Physician Lead for the Advanced Care at Home program as well as the current Medical Director of the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Florida. His previous leadership positions include the Chair of the Division of Hospital Internal Medicine in Florida, the Associate Chair of Inpatient Practice for the Department of Medicine in Florida, the Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, the Associate Medical Director of the Mayo Clinic Multidisciplinary Simulation Center, and the Medical Director of Patient Experience in Florida. He currently holds the academic rank of Associate Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. He received his M.D. from Saint Louis University Medical School in 2003. He completed his residency training at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in 2006 and is boarded in Internal Medicine. He then completed a one-year Chief Residency program at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in 2007. Following this, he joined the Hospital Internal Medicine Practice at the Mayo Clinic in Florida. He has a passion for innovation and technology in the medical field. His current focus is developing the Advanced Care at Home program and the Care Hotel program, the Mayo Clinic’s first expansion into the virtual home hospital and surgical aftercare realm.
Bart M. Demaerschalk received his bachelor’s degree in cell and developmental biology from the University of British Columbia and his master’s degree in clinical health research methodology, clinical epidemiology, and biostatistics from McMaster University. Dr. Demaerschalk joined the Mayo Clinic staff in 2001 and is a professor in the Department of Neurology, Chair of the Cerebrovascular Diseases Division, Director of Telestroke, and Medical Director of Digital Health Research. He specializes in research on ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, cerebrovascular diseases, regional stroke systems of care, stroke centers, thrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy, carotid revascularization, stroke in young adults, patent foramen ovale, arterial dissection, emergency neurology, evidence-based medicine, telemedicine, telestroke, and digital healthcare. His research approaches include systematic reviews and meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials, observational studies, and health economic analyses. He received the Distinguished Mayo Educator and Distinguished Mayo Clinician awards, as well as the Arizona Medical Association and Arizona Department of Health Services Public Service awards.
Jennifer B. Cowart, MD, is an Assistant Professor of medicine and an Academic Hospitalist at the Mayo Clinic Florida, where she serves as the Chair of Quality and the Medical Director of the Operations and Command Center. She completed her internal medicine residency and clinical pharmacology fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, then completed the Chief Residency in Quality and Safety (CRQS) program at the Houston Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She worked as a hospitalist at the Houston VA Medical Center before coming to the Mayo Clinic Florida in 2016. She has many clinical interests, from healthcare policy and advocacy, quality improvement, and mortality review, to systems education for residents and students. Dr. Cowart also has interests in hospital operations and throughput, as well as expanding hospital services into post-acute settings, including home.
