Author Biographies

Prof. Ralf Henkel studied Biology and Chemistry in Marburg, Germany. After obtaining his PhD, he worked in the Department of Dermatology and Andrology in Giessen, Germany. From 2004, he had positions as Professor of Urology in Jena, Germany, and Head of the Department of Medical Bioscience at the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa. Since June 2020, Prof. Henkel has been employed at LogixX Pharma, UK. He is also Extraordinary Professor at the University of the Western Cape, Bellville, South Africa, Honorary Professor at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Lima, Peru, and Visiting Reader in the Department of Metabolism, Digestion & Reproduction at Imperial College London, UK. Prof. Henkel supervised 76 postgraduate students (BSc Hons, MSc and PhD) and published more than 300 articles and chapters including 4 books. He is also a B-rated scientist with an h-index of 63. Furthermore, Prof. Henkel is Associate Editor for Reproductive Science and Editor-in-Chief of Andrologia. His special research interests are sperm functions, impact of redox stress on male fertility, sperm DNA fragmentation and the effects of traditional medicine on male reproductive functions.
