Prof. Dr. Marc Licker studied at the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium) where he obtained a medical degree and a doctorate. He then specialized in anesthesiology and intensive care. After spending Fellowships at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal and the University Hospital in Liège, he joined the anesthesiology and critical care department at the University Hospital of Geneva, where he was appointed in 1996 as head of the cardiothoracic unit. Since 2015, he also directed the anesthesia unit for neurosurgery and out-of-operating room interventions. His clinical expertise is related to anesthesia and critical care in cardiovascular, and thoracic surgery. His research interests are focused on perioperative risk management, mechanical ventilation, and organ protective strategies. For medical students, he was involved in teaching integrative physiology, namely courses and seminars on the physiologic responses to exercise and acute stresses. Appointed privat-docent of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva in 1999, then associate professor in 2007, he was promoted to the position of full professor in 2016 and honorary professor in 2022 at the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology and Intensive Care. Currently, he is a consultant at the Department of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia and Intensive Care at the University Hospital of Martinique, Fort de France.
