Dr. Takeshi Saito, M.D., Ph.D., holds the position of Associate Professor of Medicine, Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, and Pathology at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, CA, USA. He obtained his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Showa University, School of Medicine, Tokyo, Japan, where he subsequently completed his clinical training in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and hepatology. He then pursued postdoctoral training in microbiology–immunology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and the University of Washington (UW). After serving as an instructor of immunology at the UW, he transitioned to USC, where his laboratory studies the role of hepatocyte intrinsic innate immunity in viral hepatitis and metabolic liver diseases, aiming to improve the management strategies for chronic liver diseases. To this end, he leverages his expertise in liver bioengineering, particularly the humanized liver chimeric mice, and the cell biology of human hepatocytes. He fulfills a multitude of professional roles, serving as a study section member of the NIH and the American Gastroenterology Association, serving on the Basic Science Committee for the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, and holding editorial positions for prestigious journals. At USC, he also contributes to teaching activities for the graduate program and medical school, as well as to clinical practice specializing in liver diseases.
