Author Biographies

Jorge Yago Malo obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK, in 2019. He is currently a Researcher at the Department of Physics, University of Pisa, working in theoretical quantum many-body physics, quantum optics and condensed matter, with a strong focus on numerical methods in open quantum systems and tensor networks. His main interest is building bridges with neighboring fields for the further development of quantum technologies, which includes developing methods for the simulation of models in neuroscience and biology.
Luca Lepori graduated (cum laude) from the University of Pisa and completed his Ph.D. studies in Statistical Physics at International School for Advanced Studies, Trieste, Italy. He was a Post-Doc Researcher at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, IPCMS-ISIS, University of Strasbourg, University of Padova, University of L’Aquila, Italian Institute of Technology, and University of Calabria. Now he is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mathematical, Physical and Computer Sciences, University of Parma, Italy. His research interests include quantum physics, condensed matter physics, atomic, molecular, and optical physics, and theoretical physics.

Prof. Maria Luisa (Marilù) Chiofalo is a PhD from the Scuola Normale of theoretical condensed-matter physics at the University of Pisa. Her research is conducted in interdisciplinary and international collaborations, regadring quantum states of matter and quantum simulators, quantum metrology, quantum models for visual neurosciences, and physics education. She authors radio and video formats and popular science events, and writes in magazines on science and society. She is active in women's associations and has served for ten years as deputy mayor of the Pisa municipality for education, equal opportunities, city legacy and anticorruption, contributing to national policies planning. She has learned from volleyball to score in three touches (one being her, as setter), from soccer to score with overhead kicks, and from cycling to crash when necessary. She loves making ensemble music by playing tenor sax in the UNIPI Orchestra.
