Dr. Ahmad
Rizal Abdul Rahman is currently a Associate Professor at the Department of
Industrial Design, Faculty of Design and Architecture, University Putra
Malaysia (UPM). He was previously the Head of Department for Industrial Design
in the Faculty of Design and Architecture, UPM (2011–2014). He completed his
Ph.D. studies in Cultural Migration Design Research at Sheffield Hallam
University, UK. His specialization is involved in developing a research
methodology through design practice to understand product evolution within a
fluid changing cultural environment, as well as developing novel design ideas
for various new products and development processes, including ergonomic
product design and culture-related design projects. He has received several
design and research awards through his design research activities. The awards
are the Silver Award for Malaysia Technology Expo 2014; the Gold Award for
Malaysia Technology Expo 2013; the Special Jury Award with Compliments for
Malaysia Technology Expo 2013; the Petronas Gallery Design Exhibition award in
2011, KLCC, Malaysia; and International Award on Innovative Product INPEX USA 2006.
Dr. Mohd
Shahrizal bin Dolah is a Associate Professor at the Department of Industrial
Design, University Putra Malaysia (UPM). Earlier in his career, he worked with
one of the leading furniture companies in Malaysia as an industrial
designer/design engineer. His research and development team introduced the
office modular system in Malaysia and the furniture system, which were
commercialized globally. He joined the Department of Industrial Design, Faculty
of Design and Architecture, UPM in the year 2000 and assisted in establishing
the Department of Industrial Design. He was one of the researchers involved in
industrial and manufacturing design for the faculty. His research is concerned
with the role of the designer in participatory design and practice where he believes
that designers have to practice to become a researcher. Currently, he is one of
the most active researchers in the Life and Emotion Design research group. He
was awarded more than 30 intellectual properties and also won several design
awards at the Malaysian Technology Expo (MTE), International Invention,
Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX), and British Invention Show (BIS).
Because of his interest in space animation, biomechanics, and motion capture.
Currently, he is appointed as the Director of Design for developing the
Re-Entry Animated Project in association with the Space Tourism Society
Malaysia-Chapter.
