Author Biographies

Dr. Sergey Gusarov is a research scientist at the Digital Technologies Centre of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). His research interests include the development and application of quantum algorithms for solving quantum chemistry problems. He has extensive experience in computational chemistry, especially in the fields of nano- and biomolecular science. He is also an expert in density functional theory (DFT) and molecular theory of solvation and has contributed to several software packages such as ADF and AMBER. Dr. Gusarov has organized and participated in various research workshops and has authored or co-authored several book chapters and peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Gusarov obtained his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from St. Petersburg State University, where he worked at Prof. Fock’s lab. He then joined the MOLCAS group at Lund University, Sweden, as a postdoctoral fellow, where he worked with Prof. B.O. Roos and Prof. P.-A Malmqvist on developing the CASDFT approach, which combines the complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF) method with DFT. He moved to Canada in 2021 and joined the NRC Nanotechnology Research Centre (NINT) as a research associate before transferring to the NRC Digital Technologies Centre in 2023. He is currently involved in several projects related to quantum computing and quantum chemistry.
