Bahaa Elgendy, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis. He earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Chemistry from Benha University, Egypt, followed by a Ph.D. from the University of Florida under Prof. Alan R. Katritzky.
He completed postdoctoral training at the Scripps Research Institute before joining academia. Prior to his current role, he held positions at Benha University, Egypt, and Saint Louis University School of Medicine, USA. Dr. Elgendy's research endeavors revolve around pioneering advancements in the development of small molecule modulators targeting various nuclear hormone receptors. His work holds significant promise for therapeutic interventions spanning across cancer, fatty liver diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, and pain management. He was awarded The Egyptian State Prize in Chemical Science and the Presidential Medal of Excellence (First Class) from the President of Egypt for outstanding contributions.
Dr. Elgendy is a member of the American Chemical Society; The Saint Louis University Institute for Drug and Biotherapeutic Innovation (SLU-IDBI); The Division of Biology and Biomedical Science (DBBS); Washington University in St. Louis; and the Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS), Washington University, St. Louis.
