Elvira Colmenarejo Calero is a young researcher at the Geological Survey of Slovenia's Department of Hydrogeology. She is pursuing her Ph.D. at the University of Nova Gorica, School of Environmental Sciences. She is an environmentalist at the Autonomous University of Madrid and obtained a master's degree in water management from the University of Cádiz. Her research interests include microplastic pollution, hydrogeology, groundwater dynamics, groundwater quality, and water management.
Dr. Manca Kovač Viršek is a senior researcher in the field of microplastics at the Institute for Water of the Republic of Slovenia and the Geological Survey of Slovenia. She is biologist with PhD from Biomedicine, Genetics (Biotechnical faculty, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia). To a greater extent, her work includes developing of methodologies and monitoring of microplastics in the marine environment for the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive. She also works on developing of methodologies for monitoring microplastics in inland, underground water, wastewater and food. In addition, she also deals with research on microbial communities growing on microplastics or the so-called "plastisphere".
Dr. Nina Mali is an expert research advisor at the Geological Survey of Slovenia, where she is currently also the president of the scientific council. She obtained her master's degree at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, University of Ljubljana, and her doctorate degree at the University of Nova Gorica, School of Environmental Sciences. Her research interests include hydrogeology, geochemistry, groundwater dynamics, groundwater quality, emerging pollutants including microplastics, and groundwater protection.
