Author Biographies

Dr. Georgios Papakonstantinou is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Thessaly, and a veterinarian at the Piggy Farm. He graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Thessaly (UTH) in 2018. He then completed a postgraduate internship in farm animal medicine (specialization in porcine medicine) for one semester at the Clinic of Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Thessaly. Afterward, he received a PhD specialization in swine medicine from UTH (Farm Animal Clinic, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) in 2022. His research focuses on the study of PRRSV, PCV2, and other porcine diseases (diagnosis, prevention, metaphylaxis, and prophylaxis). He has also carried out various clinical and field trials (vaccines, antibiotics, probiotics, phytogenics, and mycotoxins). He is also interested in porcine herd health management and animal welfare.

Prof. Vasileios G. Papatsiros is a dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and an associate professor at the University of Thessaly. He finished his degree (2001) and PhD studies (2006) in veterinary medicine at the School of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). He received extra training at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover-Foundation TiHo (Germany) and in many international seminars. He has worked as a researcher on projects, a freelance swine expert veterinarian, and a veterinary officer in the Directorate General of Veterinary Services of the Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food. His research interests include porcine medicine, porcine herd health management, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), porcine circovirus-associated diseases (PCVAD), porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC), reproductive diseases in sows and boars, welfare and production, heat stress, alternatives to antibiotics, vaccines, feed additives, mycotoxins, and zoonoses.
