Professor Rafael Arturo
Zubillaga earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in 1984 and his Master’s
degree in Chemistry in 1987 from the Universidad Autónoma
Metropolitana-Iztapalapa. In 1994, he received his Doctor of Science degree
from the same university, where he conducted his research at the Institute of
Cellular Physiology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
Since 1996, he has been a Full Professor at the Department of Chemistry at the
Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Iztapalapa. He has completed research stays
at the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (UAB) in Barcelona, Spain
(2011), at the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology in Valencia,
Spain (2000), at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth (1992)
and at the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research (1991). He has supervised 5 doctoral theses and 8 master's theses. He has published 35 research articles in indexed journals. In 2011 he obtained the Research Prize awarded by the UAM. He is a founding member of the Physical Chemistry, Structure, and Design of Proteins Branch of the Mexican Society of Biochemistry. His current
research interests include the thermodynamics of receptor-ligand interactions
and the search for new protodrugs for diseases of national interest.
Dr. Abraham Landa is a researcher at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico. He holds a BSc in Biochemistry and an MSc and a Ph.D. in Biology, all from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. He served as a research fellow in the Department of Tropical Public Health at Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard University. Dr. Landa has been the recipient of prestigious awards, including the second-place Lola and Igo Flisser Award for research in parasitology, the Gabino Barreda medal for his doctorate studies, and the “Nayarit for Scientific and Technological Research” award from the Government of Nayarit. He has also been awarded a university merit award in teaching from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Currently, He has a tenured-track research appointment "Titular C" category and is a teacher of Biochemistry in the School of Medicine.
