Dr. Katerina Stefanaki is an endocrinologist. She works at the Endocrine Unit and Diabetes Center, Department of Clinical Therapeutics, Alexandra Hospital, School of Medicine, National and the Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her research interests include diabetes mellitus, PCOS, obesity, and metabolic syndrome.
Dr. Dimitrios S. Karagiannakis is an internist with a subspecialty in hepatology. He is working at the Academic Department of Gastroenterology in Laiko General Hospital, Medical School of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece, as a senior research fellow. He received his Ph.D. from the
National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His research interests include liver cirrhosis, liver elastography, spleen elastography, portal hypertension, NAFLD, and cirrhotic cardiomyopathy.
Prof. Melpomeni Peppa is a professor of endocrinology and chief of endocrine and bone metabolic disorders in the Second Propaedeutic Department of Internal Medicine, Research Institute and Diabetes Center, Attikon University Hospital and in the Third Dept of Internal Medicine, Sotiria General Hospital, Athens, Greece. She is a member of the ERASMUS+/CIVIS Committee for Medicine for the exchange and training of medical students in internal medicine. She graduated in 1988 from Aristoteleion University of Thessaloniki, Greece. She had a three-year postdoctoral research fellowship in the Division of Experimental Diabetes and Aging, Department of Geriatrics, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, NY, USA. Her research interests focus on the clinical, molecular, and environmental aspects of metabolic and hormonal abnormalities in diabetes, obesity, metabolism, cancer, and their complications. Moreover, she has participated in many national and international conferences and is a member of many national and international professional societies.
Dr. Andromachi Vryonidou serves as director of the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the Hellenic Red Cross Hospital, Athens, Greece. From 1990 to 2016, she worked at the Korgialenio-Mpenakio General Hospital, Athens. Her research interests include insulin resistance, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, metabolic endocrinology, atherosclerosis, clinical endocrinology, and reproductive endocrinology.
Sophia N. Kalantaridou is a professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and infertility at the Medical School National and the Kapodistrian University of Athens. She graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1989 and completed her postdoctoral training in the section on women’s health, Developmental Endocrinology Branch, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA, with an International Fogarty Fellowship Award. She received scholarships from the Alexander Onassis Public Benefit Foundation and the Hellenic College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Sophia has been the recipient of multiple honors and awards from the American Endocrine Society, the International Society of Gynecological Endocrinology, the Hellenic College of Endocrinology, and the Hellenic Heart Society. She has been the President of the Hellenic Authority of Assisted Reproduction (2018–2020) and a member of the Hellenic Authority of Assisted Reproduction (2016–2018). Sophia has over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. She is the president of the Hellenic Society of Contraception and vice-president of the Hellenic
Society of Climacteric and Menopause. She is also a member of the American Endocrine Society, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, and the European Society of Contraception.
Prof. Dimitrios G. Goulis received his Ph.D. from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. With a scholarship from the European Union, he worked for four years (1996–2000) as a clinical research fellow at St. Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College, London, UK, acquiring the specialty of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism. Since 2004, he has been a lecturer; since 2009 an assistant professor (non-tenure); since 2013 an assistant professor (tenure); since 2015 an associate professor; and since 2019 a full professor in reproductive endocrinology, serving the 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Medical School, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His main research interests include male reproductive endocrinology, female reproductive endocrinology, endocrine and metabolic complications of pregnancy, menopausal transition, evidence-based medicine, and research methodology.
Prof. Theodora Psaltopoulou is an internist and professor of epidemiology and preventive medicine in the School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). She was a student of undergraduate and doctoral studies at the Medical School of Athens and specialized in internal medicine at the Therapeutic Clinic of the Hospital "Alexandra". She holds two postgraduate degrees, one in epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH, Harvard, US) and the second in the organization and administration of health services from the University of Athens. She also received the title clinical nutrition specialist (US). Her teaching covers subjects of internal medicine, epidemiology, and preventive medicine for undergraduate and graduate students. She has participated in Greek and European research teams and was the researcher in the World Cancer Research Fund International funded program (WCRF). Her research interests aim to study factors in preventive medicine, public health, and post-epidemiology; she has published over 160 papers in international scientific journals (PubMed) with thousands of references. She is a member of editorial boards and a reviewer in numerous international scientific journals and scientific committees.
Dr. Stavroula A. Paschou, MD, PhD graduated with Honors (8.88/10) from the Medical School of the University of Ioannina, Greece in 2005. She obtained her PhD in endocrinology with Honors from the same University in 2010. Then, she worked at the Department of Diabetes, St Bartholomew’s Hospital, University of London in London, UK, funded by grants from the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) and the British Diabetic Twin Trust. She continued with clinical training in endocrinology at the Hellenic Red Cross Hospital in Athens, Greece. In 2015, she was awarded the International Endocrine Scholarship by the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE) and moved to Boston, MA, USA. She completed her training in endocrinology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA. Since October 2016, Dr. Paschou has worked as a postdoctoral researcher
and clinical scientific collaborator at the Medical School, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Currently, she is serving as an assistant professor at Alexandra Hospital.
