Author Biographies

Dr. Merle Henderson is a Clinical Research Fellow in HIV at Imperial College London. She is currently undertaking a Ph.D. in Infectious Disease. Her research focuses on the effects of HIV on the central nervous system. She qualified from the University of Manchester in 2014. She has subsequently worked in general and HIV Medicine in the UK and South Africa. She is working on several clinical trials in HIV and Genitourinary Medicine at the Clinical Trials Centre.
Sarah Fidler is currently working in the Department of Medicine at Imperial College London as a clinical academic, where her main focus of research is the strategic use of antiretroviral therapy and novel innovative therapies toward an HIV cure. She is also a Professor and a Consultant Physician in HIV Medicine. She has been involved in designing and leading HIV international clinical studies for participants identified in acute HIV infection, and small proof of concept studies in HIV cure. She is co-Principal Investigator of HPTN 071 (PopART), a community-based, randomized study evaluating the impact of a combination HIV prevention package on HIV incidence. This study is the largest community-randomized trial—total estimated population: 1 million—testing the impact of a combination HIV prevention package that includes a universal HIV test and treatment strategy that is being conducted across 21 high HIV burden, resource-limited urban settings in the Western Cape of South Africa and Zambia.
Caroline Foster is a consultant in Adolescent Infectious Diseases at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and the clinical lead for transitional care in HIV. Her clinical aims are to improve multidisciplinary care for adolescents and young adults living with HIV, with research interests including the long-term outcomes for adults born with HIV and the characterization of the latent reservoir.
