Foteini Mourkioti is an Associate Professor at the departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Cell & Developmental Biology and the co-Director of the Penn Institute for Regenerative Medicine, Musculoskeletal Program at the University of Pennsylvania. She obtained a BA (Biology) at the University of Patras, Faculty of Biology, Greece in 1998 and a Ph.D. (Genetics and Developmental Biology) at Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Department of Molecular Developmental Biology, Goettingen, Germany in 2002. Her research interests encompass fundamental molecular mechanisms, telomere biology, mechanosensing signals, genetic studies, and stem cells in mammalian disease mechanisms.The Research Keywords include muscle stem cells, fibro-adipogenic progenitors, stem cell regulation, musculoskeletal disorders, heterotopic ossification, mechanobiology, aging, telomere biology.
