Antonio Gasbarrini is Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and Full Professor of Internal Medicine at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, as well as Director of the Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology Unit and the Center for Digestive System Diseases (CEMAD) of the University Polyclinic Foundation Gemelli IRCCS, Rome. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery with honors in 1988 from the University of Bologna and is a specialist in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and digestive endoscopy. He attended the Liver Transplantation Department of the University of Pittsburgh (USA) as a Clinical and Research Fellow in gastroenterology from 1990 to 1993. He was the secretary of the Italian Liver Study Association (AISF) from 2006 to 2008, the president of the Italian Foundation for Hepatology Research (FIRE) from 2008 to 2011, the founder and coordinator of the Alliance against Hepatitis (ACE) from 2010 to 2015, the vice-president of the Italian Digestive Diseases Foundation from 2018 to 2021, and part of the scientific committee of the United European Gastroenterology (UEG) from 2016 to 2022.
