Author Biographies

Sheetal R. Patel is a Medical Director of the Fetal Cardiology Program at the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She received her M.D. at the Pramukh Swami Medical College, Sardar Patel University, India, and her Masters of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) at Northwestern University. She also completed her Residency in Pediatrics at the State University of New York in Brooklyn and her Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at the Wayne State University Children's Hospital. Her research interests include congenital heart defects, echocardiography, fetal and perinatal cardiology, cardiovascular management in Turner syndrome, and single ventricle palliations.
Erik Michelfelder is Professor of Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine and Director of the Fetal Cardiology Program at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Heart Center. He received his M.D. degree from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. In addition, he completed his Residency at the St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, Temple University College of Medicine, and his Fellowship at the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, University of Michigan Hospitals. His primary clinical and academic interests are fetal cardiology, congenital heart disease, and non-invasive cardiac imaging in children. His current research involves outcomes in high-risk cardiac deliveries, and studying echocardiographic predictors of outcome in prenatally diagnosed heart disease. He also has interests in quality and process improvement science and telemedicine applications in fetal and pediatric cardiology. He is active in the American Society of Echocardiography, American Heart Association, and Fetal Heart Society.
