Author Biographies

Prof. Mauro Mandrioli is an Associate Professor in Genetics at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy). He is a member of the Italian Genetics Association and a member of the Heritage Group of the Italian Society of History of Science. He is member of the scientific council of the Ph.D. in Biodiversity in Italy (supported by the National Biodiversity Future Center). He is currently working with insects of agricultural and medical interest with main attention to their symbionts, chromosomes and genomes.
Dr. Luca Tonetti is an Assistant Professor of History of Science at the University of Padua. He is involved in the National Biodiversity Future Centre project on the history and digitisation of natural history collections, with a focus on archival and library sources related to natural history museum collections in Italy. From May 2020 to February 2023, he was a research fellow at the University of Bologna. From May to July 2019, he was a fellow of the Herzog August Bibliothek, Wolfenbüttel. From October 2018 to March 2019, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the History of medicine at the Centre d’études supérieurs de la Renaissance (CESR), University of Tours. His research interests include the history of early modern science and medicine, with a particular focus on botany and natural history collections.

Prof. Elena Canadelli is an Associate Professor in History of Science at the Dipartimento di Scienze Storiche Geografiche e dell'Antichità (DiSSGeA) of the University of Padova. Previously, she was Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track Researcher B-Type/Ricercatore di tipo B) in the same Department. She is the Scientific Director of the Botanic Museum, University of Padova, and a member of Spoke 7 Biodiversity and Society. Communication, Education, and Social Impact, coordinator of Activity 7 (digitization of Italian natural history collections), National Biodiversity Future Center – NBFC, Italian Ministry of Research. She has been president of the Italian Society of the History of Science (SISS) since 2021. She is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Museo Galileo, Florence. She worked as a Researcher On Fixed-Term Contracts (A) at the Polytechnic University of Turin from January 2017 to September 2017. She taught History of Biology at the Biology Department of the University of Milan (2016/2017). In 2009 she held a Ph.D. in History of Science from the University of Pisa. She has been a postdoctoral Research Fellow in History of Science at the University of Milano-Bicocca and at the University of Padova.
