Author Biographies

Prof. Dr. Thom Huppertz holds an MSc from Wageningen University and a Ph.D. from University College Cork. His research career includes academic and industrial research in the field of dairy science and technology and has spanned many dimensions from products to processes and their interactions; from the biosynthesis of milk to digestion of milk constituents in the human body; and from product and process optimization to the role of milk and dairy products in sustainable food systems. He currently combines the roles of Professor of Dairy Science and Technology at Wageningen University, Principal Scientist at FrieslandCampina, Distinguished Visiting Professor at Victoria University, Visiting Professor at the State Key Lab of Dairy Biotechnology and Editor-in-Chief of International Dairy Journal.

Lea Brader is a Nutrition Scientist at Arla Foods, Viby, Denmark. She received her B.Sc. from the Aarhus Universitet in 2003. From 2005 to 2007, she was a Cand. Scient. in Human Nutrition at the University of Copenhagen. Then, from 2007 to 2009, she was a Scientific Assistant at the Aarhus Sygehus THG. In 2013, she completed her Ph.D. (2013) at the Department of Endocrinology and Internal Medicine, Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark.
Jan MW Geurts (1966) received a M.Sc. degree in biology from the Radboud University, The Netherlands, in 1990, and a Ph.D. degree in Medical Sciences from the University of Leuven, Belgium, in 1995. After working in academia for seven years, he joined FrieslandCampina in 2002, where he is currently appointed as principal scientist in Expert Team Nutrition. His research focuses on dairy nutrition and health in general and human physiology/non-communicable diseases in particular, and he is (co-)author of more than 100 journal and conference papers. Dr. Geurts is chair of the working group Nutrition and Health and vice-chair of the Utrecht group conference of the Dutch Dairy Organization (NZO) and a member of several International dairy organizations including the European Dairy Association (EDA), International Dairy Federation (IDF), Global Dairy Platform (GDP) and Dairy Research Consortium (DRC).
