Stefanos Ferous is a trainee in Intensive Care in the University ICU of the General Hospital of Athens "Sotiria". He is a Ph.D. candidate in the Laboratory of Clinical Microbiology of the University of Athens. After completing his rural service in Volissos, he started his training as an Internal Medicine Resident in the General Hospital of Chios from April 2018 to November 2018. Subsequently, he was transferred to the General Hospital of Athens "G.gennimatas", where he completed his residency and received his specialty in Internal Medicine in February 2023.
Dr. Cleo Anastassopoulou currently works as an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Medical School, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Athens, Greece. She was an Assistant Professor in Biology at the University of Patras, Greece, from 2014 to 2020, a Research Fellow in Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases, at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, in Boston, MA, USA, from 2010 to 2011, and a Post-doctoral Research Associate at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, New York, NY, USA, from 2005 to 2009. She carries out research in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, currently focusing mostly on SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19.
Dr. Vassiliki Pitiriga currently works as a Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Medical School, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Athens, Greece. She was a Resident in Biopathology, at the «Alexandra» Hospital, Athens, Greece, from 1996 to 2001. She earned a Ph.D. in the Department of Clinical Therapeutics, at the University of Athens' School of Medicine, in 2002. Her main research interests, at present, include healthcare-associated infections, antibiotic stewardship, multidrug-resistant pathogens, and antimicrobial resistance.
Prof. Georgia Vrioni currently works as a Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Medical School, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Athens, Greece. She was a Lecturer in the School of Medicine, University of Ioannina, Ioánnina, Greece, from 2000 to 2006. She has actively participated in the Advisory Board of the Hellenic Society for Microbiology since 2007 and in the Hellenic Society of Medical Mycology (HSoMM) since 2008 (President of the HSoMM since 2021). Her main fields of interest and research are molecular microbiology, antimicrobial resistance mechanisms in Gram-negative bacteria and fungi, and the detection and identification of fungal, bacterial, and viral pathogens in clinical samples.
Athanasios Tsakris is currently a Professor and the Head of the Department of Microbiology in the Medical School of the University of Athens, Greece. He graduated as an MD from the Medical School of the University of Athens and completed his training in Medical Microbiology in London, UK, at the North Middlesex Hospital and the Central Public Health Laboratory. He received his Ph.D. from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is a Fellow in Medical Microbiology and Virology at the Royal College of Pathologists (London, UK). He has spent sabbatical leave and served as a visiting professor at the Harvard Medical School and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, in the Division of Infectious Diseases (Boston, MA). He is an evaluator of grant applications for several organizations worldwide and a member of the Editorial Boards of several high-impact international scientific journals. Dr. Tsakris is also a member of the European Committee on Infection Control (EUCIC)'s advisory board and has previously served as a member of the Scientific Advisory Βoard (SAB) for the Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance (JPIAMR) in the European Union.
