Author Biographies

Bruno Fionda graduated in Medicine and Surgery and subsequently specialized in Radiotherapy at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome. He started working at the Gemelli-ART (Advanced Radiation Therapy) in Rome dealing with special techniques such as Surface-Guided Radiotherapy (SGRT) which uses specific light sources to monitor the patient’s surface during therapy. He worked with the first hybrid machine installed in Italy that combines modern linear accelerators (LINAC) with the acquisition of magnetic resonance images allowing to follow the movement of the internal organs in real-time. He has also gained long experience in interventional radiotherapy (brachytherapy) with both high dose rate (HDR) and pulsed dose rate (PDR). He is an editorial board member in several international journals in the oncology field. He is the author of book chapters about radiation oncology published both in Italian and in English. He is a member of the Italian Association of Radiotherapy and Clinical Oncology (AIRO) and of the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO). He is currently the Chair of the national Brachytherapy, Interventional Radiotherapy, IORT Study Group within the Italian Association of Radiotherapy and Clinical Oncology (AIRO).

Stefano Gentileschi heads the Plastic Surgery Department of Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS, and is Professor of Plastic Surgery at Catholic University, Rome, Italy. He received his Medical degree in 1999, finished his Residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2004, and received his Ph.D. in 2008, at the Catholic University of Sacred Heart, Rome. His research interests are Plastic and reconstructive surgery, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, microsurgery, facial plastic surgery, squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, melanoma, breast surgery, and lymphedema.

Prof. Dr. Agata Rembielak is a highly experienced Clinical Oncology Consultant with an excellent knowledge of advanced radiation technology and brachytherapy. She graduated from medicine and medical physics in Poland. She then enrolled in specialist training in radiation oncology and clinical-research fellowships which she undertook in Poland, Australia and Canada. She holds a PhD in medical sciences. In 2007 she joined The Christie as a clinical research fellow, leading to an MD qualification from the University of Manchester. She now holds a substantive consultant post at The Christie. In 2023 she was appointed a Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC) Honorary Clinical Chair at The University of Manchester. At The Christie at Oldham, she set up and successfully runs the Rapid Access Palliative Radiotherapy Clinic. Her research interest includes non-melanoma skin cancer, particularly the role of radiotherapy and brachytherapy in skin cancer management, palliative radiotherapy and geriatric oncology.
Dr. Ketty Peris is a Full Professor of Dermatology, Head of the Dermatology, Catholic University of Rome, and Chair of the School of Specialization in dermatology and venereology. Her main research interests include dermato-oncology, particularly melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers, and immune-mediated diseases. She has been a principal investigator in numerous therapeutic trials in skin diseases. She is the former president of the Italian Society of Dermatology-SIDeMaST, secretary general of the European Association of Dermato-oncology, and a member of international scientific societies such as the European Dermatology Forum. She has been appointed Honorary Member of the German Society of Dermatology, Serbian Society of Dermatology, and French Society of Dermatology.
Luca Tagliaferri, MD, Ph.D., graduated in Medicine and Surgery at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome and then completed a radiation oncology fellowship. In 2018, he obtained the Associate Professor qualification and in 2021 he obtained the Full Professor qualification (ASN - National Scientific Qualification). He is the Head of the Interventional Radiotherapy Unit at Gemelli-ART (Advanced Radiation Therapy) at Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli-IRCCS (Rome). The focus of his clinical and research activities is head and neck, skin, gynecological and prostate cancer. In addition, he is involved in teaching and medical software development that supports research and clinical practice with a special focus on artificial intelligence. In the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology, he chairs the Head & Neck and Skin GEC-ESTRO Working Group and is a member of the GEC-ESTRO committee and guidelines committee. At the Italian Association of Radiation and Clinical Oncology (AIRO), he coordinated activities of the Metabolic Radiotherapy (2015-16) and the Interventional Radiotherapy Working Groups (2018-19). He is a member of the AIRO executive board, currently. His research and clinical activities have led to his authorship in more than 200 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and book chapters. He is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Contemporary Brachytherapy and Brachytherapy.
