Prof. Dr. Tingju Zhu joined the ZJU-UIUC Institute at Zhejiang University as a tenured Associate Professor in December 2018. He graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering (major in Water Resource Systems Engineering and minor in Agricultural and Resource Economics) in 2004. Before that, he earned his B.S.E. and M.S.E. degrees in Hydrology and Water Resources from Wuhan University and Tsinghua University, respectively. He serves on several national and international scientific advisory boards. From 2005 to 2018, he worked at the International Food Policy Research Institute in Washington as a Postdoctoral Fellow, Senior Scientist, and Research Fellow, conducting interdisciplinary research at the interface of hydrology, engineering, and economics for addressing real-world problems concerning sustainable water resource management, food security, and associated socioeconomic outcomes under the changing environment. He has led and contributed to many research projects funded by international organizations such as the World Bank, the U.S. National Science Foundation, and private foundations. He has co-advised Ph.D. students in major research universities and served on the committees of professional associations and international conferences as a member or co-chair. His research areas include water resources, agriculture, climate change, systems analysis, integrated assessments, drainage systems, etc.
