Author Biographies

Prof. Dr. Kyriacos Felekkis is a Professor in the School of Life and Health Sciences of the University of Nicosia. He is currently the Dean of the School. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 2004 in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Since 2011, he has been a TRF in the School of Life and Health Sciences and the Medical School of the University. He holds an honorary appointment at St George’s University of London Medical School. He served as the chairperson of the Departmental Postgraduate Programme Committee at the University of Nicosia, and he is the Director of the Non-Coding RNA Research Laboratory (ncRESLA). In 2015, he was appointed as a member of the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee by the Council of Ministers. His research interest centers around the study of microRNAs and their role in the pathogenesis of human disease as well as their contribution in gene expression regulation. He has close collaboration with several research institutions in Cyprus, Greece, Europe, and the USA. His work has been published in various International Journals and books.
Dr. Christos Papaneophytou is an Associate Professor in the Department of Life Sciences of the School of Life and Health Sciences at the University of Nicosia. He is currently the Associate Dean of the School. He received his Diploma in Chemical Engineering (2000), M.Sc. (2004), and Ph.D. (2008) in Biochemistry from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) in Greece. After completing his Ph.D., he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at AUTH (2009–2011), the Centre of Research and Technology of Thessaly, Greece (2011–2014), and the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (2014–2015). His research interests focus on discovering new drugs to treat diseases such as Alzheimer's, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancer, as well as identifying biomarkers for the prognosis and diagnosis of various diseases, including cardiovascular diseases and autoimmune disorders. He is the Associate Director of the Non-Coding RNA Research Laboratory (ncr-RESLA). He has authored several peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has presented his research at numerous scientific conferences. He has participated in several research projects funded by international and national funding bodies. He is a reviewer for several scientific journals and a member of the Editorial Board of the Archives of Industrial Biotechnology Journal.
