Prof. Andrew Tsin was previously Chair of the Department of Molecular Sciences and Sr Associate Dean of Research at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine. Currently, he is a Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at UTRRG/SOM. He is an expert in retinal neurobiology and has carried out notable work on the biochemistry of the visual cycle throughout his career. His prolific contributions to science have resulted in more than 300 journal articles, book chapters, and meeting presentations. His research has been recognized through numerous awards, such as the 2015 Gold Fellow Award by the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Additionally, he served on the board of directors of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science from 2007 to 2009. Tsin’s contributions to the advancement of minorities in science earned him the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring in 2011 and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2014.
