Dr. Fernando Holguin is a Professor of Medicine—Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care at the Department of Medicine, University of Colorado School of Medicine, Aurora, Colorado, United States. In addition, he is the Director of Asthma Clinical and Research Programs. He obtained an MD at the Universidad La Salle-Facultad Mexicana de Medicina, Mexico City, Mexico (1991), and completed his Internship in the Emory University School of Medicine Program (1992). He is a member of the American Thoracic Society and European Respiratory Society. He was the Chair of American Thoracic Society and European Respiratory Society Task Force for Severe Asthma, ATS/ERS (2018), managing the development of guidelines/recommendations for managing severe asthma.
Dr. Hong Wei Chu is a Professor at National Jewish Health, and serves as the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Research Director for the Office of Research Innovation. His research has been centered on basic and translational studies in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and cystic fibrosis (CF). As the PI or a Co-Investigator on multiple NIH-funded projects, he has established his national and international reputation in studying lung (airway) immunological and genetic mechanisms of viral and bacterial infections. His expertise includes airway biology, being particularly strong in the area of airway epithelial cells; immunology and microbiology of lung viral and bacterial infections; mechanisms of exacerbations of asthma, COPD, and CF; and host–pathogen interactions.
