Dr. Carlos Martinez-Campa worked at the University of Cantabria and Instituto de Investigación Valdecilla (IDIVAL), Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, School of Medicine, 39011 Santander, Spain. His research topics mainly include cell biology, cancer, cell science, physiology, cancer biology, breast cancer, oncology treatment, radiotherapy, gene expression and melatonin.
Dr. Carolina Alonso-González is a full professor at the Dept. of Physiology and Pharmacology, School of Medicine, University of Cantabria. She is also an investigator in the Melatonin and Cancer group of the University of Cantabria, integrated into the IDIVAL Research Institute. She received a B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Oviedo in 2002 and a Ph.D. from the University of Cantabria in 2009, receiving both the Extraordinary Doctorate award and the University Social Council award for the best Ph.D. in Medical Biosciences in 2010. She is a guest editor of the special issue “New strategies in cancer pharmacotherapy: Development of hormonal antineoplastic drugs, cytotoxic drugs, and targeted therapies” published in the IJMS journal, and she is also a member of this journal's editorial board. Her research activities have focused on the study of melatonin and its antitumor actions in hormone-dependent tumors such as breast cancer tumors, as well as the ability of this indolamine to sensitize breast tumors to radiotherapy or chemotherapy.
Dr. Alicia González-Cabeza currently serves as a full professor at the University of Cantabria in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology. Throughout her career, from her thesis to this day, her research has always revolved around physiology. Since her arrival at the University of Cantabria, she has taught for more than 2230 hours, mainly to undergraduate students and, to a lesser extent, master's students. Regarding research, she has more than 45 indexed articles, and her h-index is 28 so far. Her research topics mainly include breast cancer, estrogens and cancer.
Dr. Samuel Cos earned an MD in 1983 and a Ph.D. in 1986 from the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, University of Cantabria. He worked as an assistant professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Cantabria from 1987 to 1990, an associate
professor of physiology in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Cantabria from 1991 to 2016 and a full professor of physiology in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Cantabria since June 2016. He has served as the head of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology since February 2016; a director of the Animal Facilities and Experimentation Service of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Cantabria from 1990 to 2000; a member of the Bioethics Committee of the University of Cantabria from 2010 to 2021; and since July 2021, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. His research topics mainly include melatonin, breast cancer, estrogens and cancer.
