Prof. Dr. Andre G Skirtach has obtained a BSc and MSc from Moscow State University of Lomonosov, Moscow, Russia, and a PhD from McGill University, Montréal, Canada. After completing his doctorate, he joined the National Research Council of Canada/Conseil National de Recherches Canada in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Together with colleagues, he has transferred the results of their research at NRC/CNRC to industry and created a prominent start-up Trillium Phot. Inc. Subsequently, he moved to Germany to work at the Max-Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Potsdam, Germany, eventually becoming a Group Leader in the Department of Interfaces (Prof. H. Möhwald). In 2011, he became a professor at the Department of Molecular Biotechnology, Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, University of Ghent, Ghent, Belgium.
