Dr. Ismael Hernández-Avalos currently works as an Associate Professor in the Clinical Pharmacology and Veterinary Anesthesia, Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Higher Studies Cuautitlan, National Autonomous University of Mexico, Cuautitlan Izcalli, Mexico State, Mexico. He is a Professor and member of the review committee for the planning and programming of studies in Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics of the Faculty of Higher Studies Cuautitlán, National Autonomous University of Mexico. He earned his Ph.D. degree from Autonomous Mexico State University in 2019. He specializes in the area of Animal Medicine and Surgery or in the Anesthesia and Analgesia of small species. Dr. Adriana Domínguez-Oliva is a member of Animal Welfare and the DPAA separately. She currently works as a Researcher at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Xochimilco Campus, Mexico City, Mexico. She focuses on animal welfare, animal behavior, and neurology. She is also interested in neurobiology and pain assessment in animals. She has published 50 papers with 303 citations and an h-index of 10 (Scopus, 28 December 2023). Daniel Mota-Rojas earned his degree in Veterinarian Sciences in 1998, his master's degree from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), and his PhD in Neurophysiology and New-Born Welfare from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) in Mexico. As a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and the Mexican Veterinary Academy, he is the editor of six books, including the especially noteworthy volume "Animal Welfare", which features contributions from more than 110 authors from 20 countries and is published by the Dutch publisher Elsevier, of which he is the editor-in-chief. His research topics include animal welfare and pain assessment in farm and laboratory animals, both at parturition and slaughter/euthanasia; risk assessment for animal welfare during long transport; the role of cognitive bias in animal emotions; the neurological modulation of facial expressions; pain monitoring in veterinary medicine; the neurobiology of sensitization; and health and thermostability in mammals against stress. In addition to working as the commissioner of the Ph.D. program in Biological and Health Sciences at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in Mexico since 2011, he has coordinated the research area of “Neurophysiology, Behavior and Animal Welfare Assessment” since 2008 and published more than 230 scientific papers in international journals.
