Stefano Barabino is a Professor of Ophthalmology and Head of the Ocular Surface Center at the Sacco Hospital, Milan University, Italy. He received his medical doctorate from Genoa University in 1998, completed his residency in Ophthalmology in 2002, and received his Ph.D. degree in Immunology in 2005. He completed a two-year fellowship at Harvard University, in Boston, USA. As a specialist in dry eye and ocular surface diseases, he has published more than 100 scientific articles in Italian and International scientific journals. He is an active member of several European and International professional societies, President of the Italian Society of Ocular Surface, and a board member of Ocular Immunology & Inflammation, Eye & Contact Lens, The Ocular Surface, and BMC Ophthalmology. He has been an active member of the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) since its inception in 2000.
Romina Fasciani is a Medical Director at Ophthalmology Unit, “Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli IRCCS”, Rome, Italy. She completed her Ph.D. in Vision Science at the Catholic University of Sacred Heart. She is also the Coordinator of the Microperimetry and Low Vision Service. From 2007 to 2020, she was also a member of the Advisory Committee of the National Research and Services Center for the Prevention of Blindness and visual rehabilitation established by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, Italian section, at the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome.
Pasquale Aragona is a Full Professor and Chairman of Ophthalmology at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Messina, Italy, where is also the Head of the Eye Clinic, the Director of the School of Specialization in Ophthalmology, the Head of the Regional Excellence Centres for Ocular Surface Diseases and Rare diseases in Ophthalmology. He obtained an MD degree at the University of Messina in 1985 and obtained specializations in Ophthalmology (1989) and Clinical Pharmacology (1994). After that, he received his Ph.D. at the University of Padua, Italy, and was attached in 1987 and 1991 to the Moorfields Eye Hospital of London. He is an active board member of several scientific national and international societies, including the European Dry Eye Society (EuDES), and participated in two Tear Film and Ocular Surface (TFOS) Workshops: the MGD (2011) and the Dry Eye Workshop II (DEWS II). He is the recipient of several national and international prizes, including the prestigious Amber-Gold Medal of Polish Cornea Congress.
Giuseppe Giannaccare is a Professor of Ophthalmology at the University Magna Graecia of Catanzaro (Italy). He received his Medical Degree at the University Campus Biomedico of Rome, after which he went to the University of Bologna, where he completed the Residency Program in Ophthalmology and his PhD studies. His main areas of interest involve the ocular surface (dry eye, ocular graft versus host disease, allergy, neurotrophic keratitis, blood-derived eye drops, and in vivo confocal microscopy) and cornea (keratoconus, keratoplasty, and corneal neurotization).
Edoardo Villani is a physician, mentor, and scientist. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Milan, Italy, where he is currently an Assistant Professor. His clinical and surgical work focuses on ocular surface and anterior segment diseases in adults and pediatric patients. He devotes a significant amount of time to education and teaching, both in the clinical and research domains. This includes formal teaching, training, and serving as supervisor of medical and orthoptic students, and residents in ophthalmology. His research interests include several aspects of the ocular surface in adults and children, from physiopathology to in vivo imaging, towards the development and validation of new biomarkers. He is the author of more than 40 peer-reviewed full-length research papers, an Editorial Board Member of Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science and Section Editor (Ocular Surface and Corneal Infections) of International Ophthalmology, and a member of several international scientific societies. He is mostly involved in ARVO (from the organization of Special Interest Groups to various committee services) and the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society (TFOS), as an Ambassador for Italy, as well as a member of the TFOS International Workshop on Contact Lens Discomfort and the TFOS DEWS II.
Maurizio Rolando is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Ocular Surface Center, ISPRE Ophthalmic SRL, Genoa, Italy. He was also an Associate Professor at the University of Genoa before 2015. He received his Degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Genoa in 1975. He has 140 publications with 8216 citations and an h-index of 38 (Scopus, 23 November 2023).
