Author Biographies

Dr. Nika Lovšin is a Chair of Clinical Biochemistry Research. She received her M.Sc. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Ljubljana in 2001 and her  PhD in 2003. She finished her postdoctoral scholarship at the University of California from 2004 to 2007. She has served as a research associate and an assistant professor at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Pharmacy since 2015. Her  research interests include molecular mechanisms of bone remodelling, regulation of transcription, in vitro toxicity of nanoparticles, immune response evaluation, post-transcriptional modifications, and APOBEC3 antiviral proteins.

Dr. Martina Bergant Marušič received her PhD from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 2006. She is now an associate professor at the University of Nova Gorica (UNG-LELS). Her main research interests include host–pathogen interactions in persistent viral infections that contribute to virus-related carcinogenesis and human papillomavirus (HPV) entry. She is the director of the PhD program in Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology (UNG), which is conducted in close collaboration with the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in Trieste, Italy. Her skills and expertise include human papillomavirus biology and oncogenicity, in vitro toxicity assessment and immune response evaluation.
